The Big Sick (15)

Michael Showalter | USA | 2017 | 119’

This beautiful, sweet film tells of the complexities of diversity and relationships in modern day America. It’s a superbly original romantic comedy drama based on the premise of the inherent difficulties of an interracial, inter-religious relationship between a Pakistani-American comedian and a white woman in Chicago, a perfect marriage of direction, performances and writing, and the kind of comedy that only comes along once in a while. Its solutions aren’t easy, and its paths are unusual, but it’s a crowd-pleasing love story that completely earns its emotional peaks. Enjoy!
