Winner of the 2018 Palme d'Or at the Cannes film festival. In Tokyo, Osamu and Nobuyo are raising their family in poverty, subsidising what little income they have with petty thievery. On a shoplifting expedition with his son, Shota, they discover Yuri, a homeless girl. Taking her home, they see evidence of abuse and despite their strained finances, informally adopt her.
