It's An Act: Two
Taking place over the course of one evening in a South Wales working class pub, Jim Cartwright's Two features fourteen diverse characters played by justtwo actors, as various members of the local community pull up a stool and let us into the intimate secrets of their lives.
All life is present in this pub – it’s the heart of the community where people come to celebrate, to meet, to mourn. It’s main characters, the Landlord and Landlady, connect a rich tapestry of colourful pub regulars; but their robustness and warmth at first conceals the tragedy behind the couple's relationship.
Taking the audience through a spectrum of human emotion, Two opened at The Young Vic London in November 1990 to rave reviews.
‘The writing is brilliantly, surrealistically and comically poetic’ Sunday Times
‘This richly textured piece is an assured and highly entertaining show’ Independent
‘A sharply, salty, quickfire evocation of the surface gaiety and underlying melancholia of pub life’ Michael Billington, Guardian
