WNO: In Parenthesis (12A)
A rare opportunity to see WNO’s world première production on screen.
Welsh National Opera’s In Parenthesis, composed by Iain Bell and directed by David Pountney is a beautiful adaptation of the epic World War I poem by David Jones. The opera is commissioned by the Nicholas John Trust with 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary.
Joining the Royal Welch Fusiliers, Private John Ball is posted to the Somme. In Mametz Wood they enter a mysterious, dreamlike but deadly realm. Rather than simply reporting the horrors of war, In Parenthesis also offers hope.
The In Parenthesis sketchbook - a book of drawings from artists Elizabeth Haines - will be on sale before and after the WNO In Parenthesis screenings at Mwldan at a special price of £12. The book is published by Cleddau Press, and contains a series of drawings from WNO's dress rehearsals at Cardiff's Millenium Centre in May.
