Al Lewis: Te'n y Grug (Tea in the Heather)
'Te yn y Grug /Tea in the Heather' is the new concept album by award winning Welsh singer/songwriter Al Lewis and this Spring he will be bringing these songs to the stage.
Split into two halves; the first half of the show will see Al delve into his back-catalogue to perform solo acoustic interpretations of songs taken from his multitude of albums and projects to date.
In the second half Al will be joined on stage by other musicians and a local choir to perform the 'Te yn y Grug /Tea in the Heather' album in its entirety.
The songs which make up 'Te yn y Grug /Tea in the Heather' were first performed as part of the hugely successful show of the same name at the 2019 National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst.
Tickets for that performance sold out within hours of going on sale making it the fastest selling show in the Eisteddfod's history.
The lyrics (written by Karen Owen and Cefin Roberts) were inspired by the series of short stories of the same name written by the iconic Welsh author Dr Kate Roberts – which celebrated its 60th anniversary since its first publication in 1959.
The story centres around the lives of three young girls Begw, Winni and Mair growing up around the turn of the 20th century in the Slate mining communities of North West Wales.
It is a universal tale of growing up, loss, poverty, religion, community and belonging.
The album was recorded over an intense but joyous 5 day period at Sain Studios in North Wales during August 2019 with an array of talented musicians.
Al will be joined on stage not only by his band of musicians, but also by local choir, Côr Cywair.
