ELLIE YOUNG: CHANGING FACES
20 JANUARY- 4 MARCH
Ellie Young creates portraits, which aspire to show what people look like in a particular moment, when caught in movement or a fleeting expression of thought or feeling. Her work is inspired by film or imagery culled from the internet, as well as real life encounters. She explores thematic series emphasising the play between the fictional status of her source material, the attempt at depiction and the reality of the painted object.
Her work sensitively observes intimacy and trust, but also masking and disguise involved in portraying a sitter, drawing on the act of representation as consistently involving an element of deception.
