Met Opera: Der Fliegende Holländer (Wagner)

The Met Opera in New York have this evening announced that all of their performances up to March 31 have been cancelled following advice from the U.S Department of Health. You can see the announcement on the Met Opera website here:

This does, unfortunately, include this Saturday's broadcast of Der Fliegende Hollander (14th March at 16.55) which will no longer be going ahead. We will keep you updated with rescheduling news as we receive it. If you have already booked for this screening our box office will be in touch to arrange a refund or credit for your booking.

Valery Gergiev conducts a brilliant cast led by bass-baritone Evgeny Nikitin as the Dutchman, with German soprano Anja Kampe making her anticipated Met debut as the devoted Senta, whose selfless love is what the Dutchman seeks.

Inspired by the legend of the Flying Dutchman, the Captain of a ghostly ship who has been condemned to sail the seas for eternity, is offered a chance of redemption by true love.

Director François Girard, whose mesmerizing production of Parsifal recently wowed Met audiences, returns to stage Wagner’s eerie early masterwork.

Evgeny Nikitin will sing the role of Dutchman for the Live in HD broadcast of Der Fliegende Holländer on March 14, replacing Sir Bryn Terfel.
