DJ Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio Cymru) presents an amazing evening of music at Cardigan Castle. Passionate about new bands and alternative sounds, Huw is known for championing the Welsh music scene, notably starting his own annual music festival, Sŵn in Cardiff and promoting Welsh Language Music Day throughout the UK.
Huw brings his own hand-picked line up to the Castle headlined by the magnificent Welsh Music Prize winning Gwenno, a favourite on 6Music, and supported by up and coming electronic pop bands Omaloma and Serol Serol, plus a DJ set from Huw himself.
GWENNO
Welsh singer-songwriter Gwenno headlines, following the release of her latest album Le Kov. “It’s about having to accept and respect the nuances that make us all different and discovering that all of our stories share the same truth.”
Le Kov follows her critically acclaimed Welsh language record Y Dydd Olaf (which won Welsh Music Prize and Best Welsh Album at the 2015 National Eisteddfod). Like Y Dydd Olaf it’s a bold statement about the importance of protecting minority languages. Le Kov is entirely in Cornish, Gwenno’s ‘father’ tongue. It has been created with long-term collaborator Rhys Edwards, with additional drum engineering by Gorwel Owen (Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Super Furry Animals) and mixing and additional programming by David Wrench.
Le Kov meaning The Place of Memory creates a document of a living language, to explore her own identity and the endless creative possibilities of a tongue that has been around for at least 15 centuries.
OMALOMA
George Amor and Llyr Pari’s space pop project from the mountains of Snowdonia.
SEROL SEROL
Serol Serol are two cousins from Dyffryn Conwy who work closely with George Amor and Llyr Pari of Omaloma to create mystical 'Space Pop’
